The spokesman pointed out that a weaker euro is helpful for Eurozone exports because it makes them relatively cheaper. “We are doing everything in our power to strengthen economic governance in the euro area,” he said. The euro’s recent weakness is often attributed to market fears that some of the single currency member states will not be able to repay their debts and worries that high debt burdens will impede the Eurozone recovery.
