De bailout-bonanza in Europa lijkt stilaan compleet. Reuters rapporteert dat nu ook Italië mogelijk ook voor een soort van bailout zal aankloppen bij Europa. De constructie zou volgens de Italiaanse European Affairs Minister Enzo Moavero opgezet kunnen worden via de ECB of het ESM-fonds.

“The idea is to possibly discuss at the Eurogroup/Ecofin this week mechanisms which would be triggered semi-automatically when spreads widen too much, with the aim to reduce them,” “The ECB may do it, but in a framework which would respect its autonomy. The mechanisms would make automatic something that the ECB has so far done autonomously. The European Stability Mechanism (ESM) may also do that, although it cannot act as a bank.” “We do not ask them, because we respect the autonomy of the ECB, but obviously any move to reduce spreads is welcome.”

De constructie lijkt dus meer op een permanente bailout voor Italië. En zo is de cirkel van ongelimiteerd euro’s printen bijna rond in Europa.
