Dr. Doom Nouriel Roubini sprak zich gisteren uit over China en z’n beleid omtrent de yuan. Volgens Roubini heeft China er enkel voordeel mee om z’n munt te laten aantrekken (ten opzichte van de Amerikaanse dollar). Hiermee spreekt professor Nouriel Roubini zich uit over de Chinese manipulatie van de koers van de yuan. Voorheen waren het vooral de staatshoofden (vooral in de VS) die zich tegen het valutabeleid van China keerden. Via Businessweek:
“Today China is overheating, inflation is rising, there is excessive monetary growth, excessive credit growth, beginning of asset bubbles,” “One of the ways which China can control this risk is to allow a faster rate of appreciation of the currency,” said Roubini, who teaches at New York University.
In juni deden de Chinese leiders al een toegeving door meer ‘flexibel’ beleid te voeren m.b.t. de Chinese yuan. Sindsdien is de yuan met zo’n 3% aangetrokken versus de Amerikaanse dollar. Volgens Nouriel Roubini heeft China nog veel ruimte om de yuan te laten aantrekken:
“Between 2-3 percent and 20 percent there is a happy medium that could comprise what are the minimum the United States needs and what is the maximum given the constraints of China and what China is willing to do,” he said.
